| Artist Marcus Amerman |
Butterfly Maiden, Brooke Shields with wings Marcus Amerman (Choctaw) is best known for his beadwork, purses and jewelry. A beadwork portrait he made of Janet Jackson was used as cover artwork for Rolling Stone Magazine. He is an eclectic artist who combines humor and a sense of traditionalism in his work. Of Native American art he says, "If you (a Native artist) do a painting or a sculpture, say of Janet Jackson then it's like you're going over into western culture. With beadwork, you're taking it back. It becomes Indian. Janet Jackson becomes Indian." |
